Spotlight on Dr. Gang Fan:
Dr. Gang Fan has joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Rochester as an Assistant Professor. He completed his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, where he pioneered methods to use electroactive microbes for controlled polymerization. As a postdoctoral associate at MIT, he developed catalytic platforms inspired by biology to advance energy‑related transformations. Dr. Fan has published as lead author in Nature Chemistry, PNAS, and JACS. His work has been recognized with multiple honors, including the AIChE Excellence in Graduate Polymer Research award (finalist), the MIT Chemical Engineering Postdoc Research Grant, and the ACS PMSE Future Faculty Scholar Prize. At Rochester, his lab explores the intersection of bioengineering, chemical engineering, and polymer chemistry to address challenges in human health and sustainable polymers.
